I have been trying for 7 months to help my 4 year old daughter get off of insulin. She was diagnose 6/09. We get close, but then she spikes. We have had her on the diet for a good 5 months. No dairy, no grain. I wonder why it does not work for her. We stay up every night researching. Thank you for starting your website.

      Hi Stephanie,

I really don’t know what it could be. I know that it’s working for my daughter right now…but she may have to be back on at some point. Is your daughter on a low dose of insulin? Does the diet help at all? I notice that when Lily has popcorn or any artificial sweetners (stevia, aspartame, etc…) she spikes…doctor says it shouldn’t happen…but it does. Do you notice it spikes at certain times or when there is any kind of stressful situation? Do you keep a food log at all? We are bad about that still because she’s been doing so good, but I do write down what she ate before if I see that her BG level spikes. The other thing we do is give fat/protein with every carb so it slows the glucose absorption. I wish I knew why our kids have to go thru this. It’s so hard not to know why….but atleast you are trying to figure it out. I’m sure either way, our kids will be healthier than most in the long run because we are trying to nourish them.

Best of luck and write anytime.

      Jayne
